More frequently we are always told to trust our instincts, but what does this mean and more essentially, how do you do it?
Instinct or intuition is your immediate understanding of something. You don’t have to think over or get another opinion-you just know. Your intuition is a feeling in your body that you are the only one who experiences. Since this feeling is quite personal, nobody can tell whether you are in touch with it or not. You are the only one to make that call. Due to this, it means you are trusting yourself if you trust your intuition.
Paying attention to your intuition helps you avoid unhealthy relationships and situations. Your intuition will guide you to choose what’s best for you since people have different opinions about what’s best for you.
Trusting your instincts is not as easy as the phrase implies. Especially when certain behaviors and habits pulled us in the opposite direction. Fortunately, our intuition is just in us even when we are out of touch with it for our entire lives, it’s still inside us.
Ways of cultivating your intuition:
Follow the following steps to hone your feeling of intuition in your body and bring it forward to guide you through important situations
- Slow Down and Clear your Mind
When you’re always on the move, you miss information. Slowing down helps you process the information you’ve received not only in your body but your mind too. For this to be fulfilled, you need to be clear both mentally and physically. In real life, it looks like removing an urgency from a decision by pushing back a deadline. It may also mean, moving away from a situation to gain clarity.
If you slow down, you’re purposefully making space for your intuition to occupy. It helps shift your thinking and clear distractions.
- Take Note of the Sensations in Your Body
Learn to pay attention to what’s going on in your body since intuition is grounded within the sensations that are in your body like maybe what you are feeling helps in building your intuition. There’s a slight difference between “feelings” and “sensations” although they can be used interchangeably to describe intuition.
- Pay Attention On You
Know what you need and what’s important for you. At this time, everything should be about you therefore, give yourself full attention. If you discover that you are mainly focusing on other individuals and their needs, return your attention to you and start thinking of what you need coz that’s the only way you’ll find your intuition.
- Take Action
After answering the question, “what do I need at the moment?” do something about t so that you can get what you need. This might be a small step but size doesn’t matter. Small steps can help you build your trust with your instincts on who you’ll be meeting for the first time or who to date after a failed relationship. It’s important to just follow your intuitions.
Do not forget that trusting intuition is a journey which will take you back to these steps frequently as situations change and life continues. See your intuition as muscle strengthener. It will become more powerful and serve its objective when practiced and used frequently.
